Sabah (Deramakot, Sepilok, Kinabatagan), Malaysia

  • One of the best mammal-watching destinations on earth

  • Megafauna

  • Very high diversity

  • Habitat destruction extremely obvious (palm oil)

  • Some parks very expensive (Danum Valley for example)

Freedom:

Decent for Sepilok, poor elsewhere. Most places require package bookings.

Costs:

Extremely expensive for some parks. Kinabatagan is priced fairly, Sepilok is very cheap, and Deramakot is expensive. Most parks operate as package deals with all-inclusive prices that are pretty high.
